Bahaghari = rainbow
What is the origin of this word?
bahag+hari = loincloth of a king
bahagi+hari = part of a king
or maybe none of the above ?

Filipinos usually associate the word “bahág (loincloth/g-string)” with the traditional attire of a male Igorot/Ifugao (an ethnic group in the northern part of the country). In Baguio City, the capital of the Mountain Province, you can see some Igorot men wearing them.
The thick cloth’s usual design is bold-color stripes, and that’s how the metaphor came about.
So, “bahaghari” is “bahag + hari -> bahag ng hari = loincloth of a king”.
